Well after a bunch of going back in forth I finally decided to take the plunge and convert my F100 to a SWB. Thanks to Deek from the HAMB for providing me with the measurements and my buddy Jeff for facilitating the fab work. (The pix are slightly out order...)

Determined not to go through another 30 year restoration my dad and I have been really digging into the 66 A100. He has been doing most the work with me being an extra set of hands. After he stripped the interior and stainless he and I pulled the engine and all the glass. Next week I take the truck to get blasted and epoxy primed. I'm pretty stoked to see dad excited about his truck.*Note the use of the Fire helmet shell for a wheel-chock and the ridiculous use of two tires and a 1x6 for the Slant 6 to rest on*

So my posting has been less than.....Ok, I haven't posted in awhile. Summer was filled with lots of good times. Reconnected with some old friends and made lots of new ones. Tons of shows and plenty of hanging out. I moved into a new place with Corinne. The Hot Rod Fall Out came and went and it's already November. Holy shit! Where did the summer go?

New/Old Project

My dad has been storing this van since I was a kid. It was my Grandfather's van and my dad drove it all through high school. My grandfather died before I was born and at a fairly young age in April of 1976. It hit my dad particularly hard. This van means a lot to my Dad. It's a physical connection to his father that is unchanged or altered by time...I would say it means a lot to me too..

For years the van has sat with the occasional shuffle from one garage to another. Over the past few years my dad has talked more and more about getting the van on the road. A loss of current storage has been the catalyst to get it back on the road.

My dad has always talked about mildly hot rodding it. In fact in high school he ran bigs and littles on it and could chirp the tires on it in 2nd gear. Last year I picked up another 66 A100 van with a 360 dropped in it. The plan was to originally to drop the 360 into this van but after some consideration we have decided to stick with the 225 Slant Six. The paint and body will remain largely unmodified. We are going to keep the color scheme. The only big change beyond the hopped Slant 6 will be stance/tire and wheel combo. My dad is leaning towards a little rake with mopar police rims and am leaning toward a lowered stance with astro supremes and skinny whites.

Finally got the front bumper back on the F100%. Also powder coated some stealies. Not sure if I'm gonna go bullets or baby moons for centers. I'll be dropping the front end another 2" by the end of summer and adding some disc brakes for additional stopping power. Overall I am pleased with my slow yet forward moving progress

A Long Overdue Update........

This update is long overdue. With the return of o/t at work I'm finally catching up on some bills and making some bank again. Unfortunately, I haven't been doing much of anything else besides obsess about all my projects. For starters after much thought I decided to start over with the "Halo Bender" frame. The geometry just isn't right aesthetically or ride wise. I'll likely be purchasing a weld on hard tail from a well known fabricator rather than sticking with the current set-up. The F100 is still awaiting the return of it's now tucked front bumper and a 2" drop axle install.

On the other hand I was finally able to clear out some storage space at 1115 Main. The Green A-100 van has gone to a new home.

I snapped a few pix of the truck the other night. The rear air shocks were empty they aren't holding air worth a damn. So the ass end is about 2" lower than normal. I'm still gonna put a 2" drop axle to bring the front end down a little lower. But overall I'm happy with the drop. I threw in a before pic too

The "Halo Bender" Project

I had been wanting to get a bike for sometime. One leather fire helmet and set of American racing rims in trade landed me a 74 Honda CB 554. I brought the bike up to my friend Scott in Torrington,CT and after some discussion he quickly set off building the "Halo Bender". Above is the basic final mock up. I will be replacing the stock bars likely with a set of drag bars. I'll be laying down paint and then returning the bike to Scott for final assemble. This is my first bike and I'm pretty stoked on the outcome.

So maybe another project was the last thing I needed...... I'm gonna just leave this one as it is. She aint pretty and she is no hot rod.....but she'll pull down a house. "Old Blue" was originally owned by the US Air Force. She has a 318 backed up by a 4 speed with a Spicer rear end

The D Series was a line of pickup trucks sold by the Dodge division of American automaker Chrysler Corporation from 1961 to 1980. After 1980, the trucks were renamed as the Dodge Ram and the same basic design was retained until the 1994 introduction of a completely redesigned Ram. The D Series shared its AD platform with the Dodge Ramcharger/Plymouth Trailduster twins.

The body offered the then-traditional step-side bed, with distinct fenders as an option. As default, it introduced the first Virgil Exner-inspired "Swept-Line" bed where the bed was the width of the vehicle and the fenders were inboard, as can be seen in virually all modern pickup trucks.

The D Series used the familiar Chrysler Slant 6 engine in displacements of 170 cu in, 198 cu in and 225 cu in as the base models, depending on the year. (The 198 was relatively rare, available as the base engine only from 1969 to 1973). All of Chrysler's larger engines, with the notable exception of the Chrysler Hemi engine were available as factory options.

Another innovation was the introduction of an alternator rather than a generator for electrical power. A three-speed automatic transmission was a major advance - the truck used a two-speed automatic less than a decade earlier.

Yet another innovation, a "Crew Cab" (four-door) body style was introduced in 1963, a first for a factory pickup. Prior crew cabs were custom conversion jobs. A "Club Cab" was also available for 1973, providing transverse seating for either a single third passenger or two small third and fourth passengers (most often, the Club Cab was used as extra cargo space).

Its hard to believe but its year 4 for the Hot Rod Fall Out. Last year was by far our biggest year so of course this year we plan on a bigger and better show. Ian, Charlie and myself are being joined but our good friend Lance of Miltown Ink/Miltown Rods this year. I'm really looking forward to this years show. There is no other show like the HRFO and we plan on continuing to make better every year.

P.S. If anyone knows who stole the door pictured above @ HRFO III, we would appreciate it back
